About Holistic Psychology

Holistic psychology is an approach to healing that involves treating the client as a whole person--mind, body, and "generator" (or, soul).  All three need to be addressed for optimal health.  Emotional health impacts physical health and physical health impacts emotional health.  For example, when we feel stress, our bodies releases cortisol, which accelerates the aging process.  Or if someone is dealing with cancer, that person may feel depressed.  Unfortunately, not enough attention gets paid to these truths in regular medicine.  Moreover, many people are frustrated to find their physician only allowing them a few minutes of his/her time.  In such a situation, they often feel like a "number" or a mere collection of body parts.  But, we are really whole, connected beings and deserve to be treated as such!

Through time-tested techniques such as feelings management and mindfulness, holistic psychology enables persons to take responsibility for making new choices that can help them to grow and improve the quality of their lives, thereby finding meaning and the potential to live their life's purpose!

Kris Abrahamson

Kris Abrahamson, M.A., is a licensed psychologist who has lived with Type-I diabetes for 27 years.  She is now a successful, dual-organ transplant recipient on very little anti-rejection medication because she adheres to a holistic approach in her own self care.  Kris has been in the mental-health field for eighteen years and has worked with a variety of populations during this time.  She is a strong advocate of complementary therapies and utilizes some of them with her clients as is appropriate and desired.

Kris helps people process emotions related to anxiety and worry, continued sadness and depression, grief/loss from death and divorce, emotional and physical abuse, anger management, addiction recovery and codependency, stress and pressure, self esteem and emptiness, and medical challenges such as diabetes and organ transplant.  Kris takes a special interest in helping couples to repair and rebuild their relationship or marriage. Kris' life experiences, wisdom, and warmth create a supportive environment for people to learn to manage life's challenges, to heal, and to be empowered and transformed!

Kris accepts certain health-insurance plans as well as payment out-of-pocket.  Those having coverage through  Medica or UHC can get three free sessions, but must call 1-800-626-7944 to get prior authorization.

Kris also sees clients at her Golden Valley, MN location: 4050 Olson Memorial Hwy #285.
