Naturopathic Medicine is a unique profession of primary health care that emphasizes the use of prevention and promotion of optimal health through the use of natural therapeutics.
Naturopathic medicine encourages the self-healing process, the vis medicatrix naturae, and blends centuries-old knowledge of natural therapies with current advances in the understanding of health and human systems. Its scope of practice includes all aspects of family and primary care--from pediatrics to geriatrics--and all natural-medicine modalities.
Naturopathic medicine is founded on the following principles: First, do no harm. Nature has healing powers. Find and treat the cause. Treat the whole person. A naturopathic physician is a teacher. Prevention is the best cure.
Tamara Torres, N.D., is a graduate of the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Arizona. She is one of only a handful of naturopaths to have completed a two-year residency in Family Practice. Practicing as a primary-care provider in Phoenix, she cared for an immigrant population that had been underserved by physicians. In the spring of 2010, Tamara returned to her home state of Minnesota, where she is registered by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. Tamara's passion is empowering patients through education and collaboration to support optimal health.
